Root canal treatment
When inflammation reaches the nerve, we clean the canals inside the tooth and seal them. This way the tooth can be saved instead of removed.
When you need it
- Strong or night-time pain
- Pain from hot food or drink that lingers
- Pain when biting
- Swelling or a small bump on the gum
How the treatment works

X-ray
We see how many canals there are and their shape.

Anaesthesia and access
We numb the tooth and open the pulp chamber.

Cleaning the canals
We remove the inflamed tissue, then shape and rinse the canals.

Medication and temporary filling
If the inflammation has reached the root tip (periodontitis), the canals are treated with medication over several visits.

Filling the canals
We fill the canals to the root tip and take a control X-ray.

Restoring the tooth
A filling, post or crown — depending on how much of the tooth remains.
How long it takes
For pulpitis often 1–2 visits, for periodontitis several.
After the procedure
- Don't eat while the anaesthesia is working
- For 2–3 days the tooth may be sensitive when you bite — that's normal
- If the pain gets worse or swelling appears — call us
